Guided tour of the castle of Castelnaud
On the banks of the Dordogne River, not far from La Roque Gageac, stands the impressive medieval fortress of Castelnaud.
A Cathar castle at the very beginning of the 13th century, Castelnaud was then taken by Simon de Montfort during the crusade against the Albigensians.
The scene of an important siege during the Hundred Years' War, the Castelnaud Castle has had an eventful history, which has seen it successively pass from the English camp to that of Charles VII.
Today it houses the Museum of War in the Middle Ages.
Its visit is the occasion to discover extraordinarily preserved fortifications and to enjoy a unique panorama on the Dordogne valley.
